According to Israeli sources, in the ceasefire talks, held in Qatar, a new initiative was agreed which brings together previous proposals and takes into account "key issues and recent developments in the region". This was announced by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, without revealing additional details, informed the German newspaper Der Standard, quoted by News.bg.
Negotiations with mediators will continue in the coming days with the aim of reaching an agreement. Meanwhile, the head of Israel's Mossad foreign intelligence agency, David Barnea, left Doha after consultations with CIA Director William Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
According to sources of the American portal Axios, CIA Director Burns proposed a 28-day ceasefire, including the release of about eight hostages from Hamas and dozens of Palestinian prisoners from Israel.
Earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi proposed a short-term two-day ceasefire in which four Israeli hostages would be exchanged for several Palestinian prisoners. Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, is among the mediators in the negotiations. According to media reports, the Israeli leadership is considering the possibility of a limited agreement that would allow negotiations for a comprehensive agreement to resume.
At an event in Jerusalem marking the anniversary of the Gaza war, relatives of Hamas hostages booed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech. With cries like "Shame on you", they forced him to cut short his speech shortly after it began.
Relatives of the hostages staged a series of protests demanding a ceasefire with Hamas and the release of the hostages - both the living and the remains of the dead. Around 100 people are believed to still be detained in Gaza, but many may have died.
