Germany said it is closing and the three Iranian consulates in the country in response to the recent execution of German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmahd.
The move affects the Iranian missions in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich, but not the embassy in Berlin. Around 32 Iranian consular officials will lose their right of residence and have to leave the country unless they can prove other reasons to stay, such as EU citizenship.
Iran condemned the closure of its three consulates in Germany and summoned the interim manager of the German embassy in Tehran in protest, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deny consular services to Iranians and Germans is “unjustified”, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a press release published on the Internet portal "Iran Nuances" (Iran Nuances).
The Iranian Foreign Ministry called the German government's protest against Sharmahd's execution "interference" in its internal affairs.
