„I heard the voices of those who supported me, and to those who voted for Alexander Stoyanoglo. I swear to be the president of all of you and take into account the opinion of the opponents“.

This is what the president of Moldova, Maya Sandu, who won the elections for the head of state, said at the briefing after the vote.

Sandou, who is supported by the pro-Western party “Action and Solidarity”, leads in the second round of the elections for the head of the republic with 55.04% of the votes, while the candidate of the opposition Party of Socialists and former chief prosecutor Alexander Stoyanoglo has 44.96%, reports the Central Electoral Commission after processing 98.92% of the protocols from the polling stations.

At the same time, Stojanoglo, after processing 100 percent of the protocols from polling stations in the country, won in the territory of the republic outside the capital with 51.19 percent, Sandu has 48.81 percent.

Stoyanoglo called on his supporters to “remain calm, regardless of the result”, and pro-government media and non-governmental organizations to “stop the artificial sowing of hatred”.

Majorities of residents in the north and south of the country voted for the former prosecutor general, while in central Moldova they voted mainly for the current president. Stojanoglo was supported by residents of the second-largest city of Balti, while a majority (57.35 percent) of residents of the capital Chisinau voted for Sandu.

Stoyanoglo also leads in his home country of Gagauzia with an absolute advantage: after counting 85.29% of the protocols in the autonomy, he received 95.85% of the votes, while his rival had only 4.15%.

In polling stations in Transnistria, he also received 79.40 percent after processing 100 percent of the protocols, while Sandu was supported by only 20.60 percent.

In the sections abroad, after processing 7.87 percent of the protocols, the incumbent president won with 74.13 percent of the votes, and Stoyanoglo with 25.87 percent.
