German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has fired his finance minister, Christian Lindner, after weeks of wrangling over the government's future economic direction, Reuters reported, citing two sources.
Newspaper "Bild" reported earlier today that Lindner had proposed early elections as a way out of the impasse, a proposal that Scholz rejected.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's tripartite coalition met today for new crisis talks in an attempt to prevent the collapse of the government, DPA reported.
The most contested issue is how to fill the huge hole in the 2025 budget ahead of a crucial budget committee meeting on November 14, as well as how to restore growth in Germany's weakened economy, which faces more a year of recession.
