Not a single Russian missile reached Ukraine today after the Ukrainian Air Force announced a high degree of alarm because of information about a mass takeoff of Russian bombers from Russian territory for the first time in over two months, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Ukraine's military expected a large-scale Russian attack, which is why preventive power cuts were taken in the country. The authorities urged the residents of many areas to take shelter in bomb shelters.
"The air alert is related to the launch of cruise missiles by Tu-95MS strategic bombers," the Air Force of Ukraine announced in "Telegram".
By 08:30 local (and Bulgarian) time, however, no missiles had reached Ukraine. According to Ukrainian military bloggers, the Russian bombers conducted flights that imitated missile launches.
Electricity was temporarily cut off in several Ukrainian regions and in certain areas of Kyiv. Footage of people gathered in subway stations, which have been used as bomb shelters since the beginning of the war, appeared on social networks.
As of the same hour, the air alert had not yet been lifted.
On August 26, Russia attacked Ukraine with over 200 drones and missiles, killing seven people and damaging energy facilities across the country. Kyiv described this attack as “the most massive“ since the beginning of the war.
