French President Emmanuel Macron stated in Rio de Janeiro that the administration of the head of state of the United States Joe Biden came out with a "good decision" by allowing Ukraine to use American weapons to carry out strikes inside Russia, BNR reported.
On the sidelines of the G-20 meeting, Macron also explained that the decision was prompted by the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the war in Ukraine, which was an escalation by Russia.
In Rio de Janeiro, the leaders of the G20 countries issued a joint statement calling for cooperation on tax policy, climate change and poverty reduction.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, the leaders of the 20 largest economies are focusing on, and I quote, the "human suffering" as well as the economic consequences of the conflict. They also express "deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip" and demand urgent aid and protection of civilians in Lebanon and Gaza.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is not present in Rio de Janeiro and Moscow is represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, recalls "Reuters".
The Russian war against Ukraine must stop, and this can only happen if Russia ends its aggression and withdraws its military from Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at the G-20 summit, BNR reported.
Scholz shared the opinion that the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the war against Ukraine should not be tolerated and requires a clear response and unequivocal condemnation.
However, the German chancellor made it clear that a clear response could not include providing Kiev with long-range German missiles.
Scholz defended his decision to hold an hour-long conversation with Vladimir Putin last week - after nearly two years of the Russian president's isolation from the West. Putin, who after this conversation dramatically increased the intensity of strikes against Ukraine, should have realized that he was responsible and stopped the war. The end of the war, Scholz explained, will be achieved by actions - both at the front and at the diplomatic level - through decisive messages.
