Europe has increased its military production by 30% since the start of the war in Ukraine, and last year's defense spending reached 326 billion euros. This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, to journalists before today's meeting of European defense ministers in Brussels, quoted by BTA.
A call for greater production and independence
Borrell called for a further increase in defense production so that Europe can defend its interests and values. He stressed that support for Ukraine should continue and warned that the EU should not wait for the decisions of the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
Strikes against Russia and international law
The High Representative welcomed Washington's decision to allow Ukraine to fire US weapons at Russian targets. He specified that within the EU, such decisions are made by individual countries and called on more countries to grant similar permits.
"Some countries have already allowed this, and it is fully in line with international law," Borel said.
