Kiev announced today that the new type of hypersonic missile launched yesterday by Russia over the Ukrainian city of Dnipro (Dnipro in Ukrainian) ballistic missile had a flight time of about 15 minutes and a maximum speed of over Mach 11 (which is equal to 3773 meters per second), reported Reuters, citing the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine.
"The flight time of this Russian rocket from the moment of launch from the Russian Astrakhan region to the city of Dnipro was fifteen minutes," said the GUR statement.
"The missile was equipped with six warheads, each of which had additional ammunition. In the last phase of the flight, a speed above Mach 11 was developed," the message of the main Ukrainian intelligence service also reads.
GUR adds that the weapon aimed at the city of Dnipro "is most likely part of the Russian missile complex "Kedr", notes Reuters.
Initially, Kiev assumed that Russia had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, but US and NATO representatives confirmed the definition given by Putin - an intermediate-range ballistic missile, the world agency recalls.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday called on the international community to react immediately to the launch of the Russian missile. NATO convened an emergency meeting with Ukraine at its headquarters in the Belgian capital Brussels on Tuesday regarding the attack, AFP reported earlier today.
