Former American officer Scott Bennett, who asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to granted him citizenship, has died in California at the age of 50, RT reported.

He was the author of documentaries for the channel and a regular guest expert.

According to the editor-in-chief of the media group "Россия сегодня" and RT Margarita Simonyan may have been killed for telling "the truth about the events in Ukraine".

She added that Bennett actively covered the events in Donbass. “He showed what is really happening there,”, writes Simonyan in his Telegram channel.

According to her, after sending his report to the US Congress "on the crimes of the Kiev regime in the Belgorod region", Bennett warned his friends about a possible threat to his life: "He wrote to friends that he was not inclined to kill himself in case something happened to him.”

According to Simonyan's observations, the expert did not complain about health problems. "He never mentioned that he was sick with anything. He was in great shape two weeks ago. And suddenly, unexpectedly, he died of a cancer he never had, according to the testimony of his many different friends," she said.

The analyst has dedicated his life to exposing those he believes abuse power. In 2023 he visited the Donbas to see firsthand what was happening there and bring the truth to the American public. The expert criticized the United States for supporting a proxy war against Russia and advocated a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, writes RIA Novosti.

In addition, Bennett strongly condemned Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, calling them genocide of the Palestinian people. “The Israeli government is trying to erase the Palestinians and mention Gaza like chalk drawings on a blackboard,” he said earlier in an interview with Sputnik.
