Ukraine's partners must respond to Russian blackmail by providing of Kiev air defense systems that can intercept ballistic missiles with medium range like “Oreshnik”, said on the social network “X“ Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibyga, quoted by Ukrinform and BTA.
„Russia's use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile is typical blackmail. "Putin is trying to scare everyone into not supporting Ukraine," he wrote. The minister called on Ukraine's allies to reject such threats, increase support and strengthen the country's air defense capabilities by providing it with systems that can intercept such missiles.
On November 21, Russian forces fired an intercontinental ballistic missile, a Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile, as well as seven Kh-101 cruise missiles toward the Ukrainian city of Dnipro (in Ukrainian Dnipro), the Air Force Command of Ukraine said. Ukraine's air defense intercepted six of the X-101 missiles.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that a medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik" was used against Dnipro. in response to Ukraine's alleged use of American and British long-range missiles.
Sibiga later confirmed that a meeting of the Ukraine–NATO Council will be held on November 26 to discuss Russia's use of the new missile system.
