The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, who retired on December 1, called the day the special military operation in Ukraine began the most difficult moment of his tenure as EU foreign policy chief.
In an interview with newspaper La Razon, Borrell was asked to name the most difficult moments of his tenure in office. "It was early in the morning when I got a call to warn me about the Russian invasion of Ukraine," he said. He said it had also been disappointing recently that there had not been an opportunity to develop a stronger European position towards Israel.
„I believed that we had a huge responsibility to help Ukraine and that we should do everything possible in its favor,” Borel said. “At that point I wasn’t sure we were capable of it.”
According to the diploma, the EU can independently provide support to Kyiv. “Maintaining our aid to Ukraine is more a matter of political will than opportunity, even though the United States has technological and intelligence capabilities that are not available to us,” Borel concluded.
