Electoral the process of the presidential elections was flawed the entire time it was taking place, the Constitutional Court of Romania stated in its reasons for postponing the first round of the presidential elections, BTA reported.

“At all stages, there were numerous irregularities and violations of electoral law that distorted the free and fair nature of the vote,” said the judges' position, which was published this evening. The document states that campaign finance laws were ignored.

“All these aspects had the convergent effect of disrespecting the essential principles of democratic elections”, it is also written in the reasons.

The judges noted that the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence, both by candidates or contestants in elections and by political parties, their supporters and sympathizers, must be transparent to ensure the integrity and impartiality of elections.

“Otherwise, voters are prevented from forming an opinion about the candidates and electoral alternatives, or may be misled about the identity and quality of the candidate or the voting procedures. Therefore, the use in an electoral process by competitors, including political parties, of such practices mandates the competent public bodies, according to the law, to check, ascertain and, as the case may be, sanction such behavior,”, the document also states.

Romania remains a stable, solid and reliable country from the EU and NATO, deeply anchored in the values of the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic space, wrote last night the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Luminica Odobescu on her official profile on the social platform "X". ; (X).

The publication comes hours after Romania's Constitutional Court annulled the first round of the presidential election.

The new government of Romania will set new dates for holding the presidential elections in Romania, President Klaus Iohannis announced this evening. He will remain in his post until a new head of state is elected.
