The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will vote on a bill to hold special investigation into first lady Kim Gun-hee before she voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol, Yonhap news agency reported.
On November 26, the president for the third time vetoed the bill to investigate his wife. The opposition suspects Kim Gun-hee of involvement in securities fraud and interference in the process of nominating candidates for parliament. In order to overcome the veto of the president, the opposition must receive 200 of the 300 votes of the deputies, the agency writes. 108 seats in the National Assembly are controlled by the presidential party.
In a statement proposing the impeachment of the president, representatives of six parties accused Yoon Suk-yeol of imposing martial law to avoid an investigation into his family. As grounds for impeachment, the opposition refers to the fact that the president violated the constitution, as there were no grounds for the introduction of such a legal regime.
