Nearly 400,000 residents of Ireland were left without electricity due to the effects of Storm Dara, which hit the British Isles on Saturday evening, the RTE television channel reported.

According to the Met Office of the Republic, in some areas of the country, for example in County Galway, wind gusts of up to 141 km/h were observed. There are reports of fallen trees and blocked roads in some places. Train and bus services are subject to severe disruption.

Several flights were canceled at Dublin Airport - almost all due to fly to neighboring Britain, which was also not spared by Storm Dara. The highest red weather warning level remains in Wales and people are advised to stay indoors and avoid using transport.

Downed power lines left 55,000 homes without power in Wales, South West England and the West Midlands.

Holiday events planned for Saturday have been canceled across the country. The management of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London, Great Windsor Park and Christmas markets in Bournemouth, Plymouth, Exeter and Brighton have announced the cancellation of their Saturday programmes; all the capital's royal parks, including Hyde Park, St. James's Park, and Kensington Parks closed their doors. Several football matches will not take place, including the so-called Merseyside derby between Everton and Everton. and "Liverpool" within the 15th round of the English Premier League.
