South Korea's parliament rejects bill to investigate first lady - 1

The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea has rejected a bill to investigate first lady Kim Geun-hye. This is shown by the results of the voting of the deputies, broadcast by the TV channel YTN.

The opposition suspects Kim Gun-hee of involvement in securities fraud and interference in the process of nominating candidates for parliament.

198 deputies voted for the investigation, 102 were against. Two-thirds of those present were required for admission. The impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol is also being considered on Saturday.

The governing party "Civic Power" decided to boycott the impeachment vote.

In a statement proposing the impeachment of the president, representatives of six parties accused Yoon Suk-yeol of imposing martial law to avoid an investigation into his family. As grounds for impeachment, the opposition refers to the fact that the president violated the constitution, as there were no grounds for the introduction of this legal regime.
