The US and the West must stop are provoking Russia, as their policy towards Ukraine at the moment looks like Russian Roulette with nuclear weapons. This was stated by HSE research professor and leading researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Affairs Dmitry Trenin at the conference of the Shiller International Institute dedicated to the organization's 40th anniversary.
„What is happening in Ukraine is perceived in a broad sense as a proxy war between the USA and the collective West, on the one hand, and Russia, on the other. At the moment, the situation has reached an extremely dangerous point, and I think that the use of ATACMS, the change in Russian nuclear doctrine and the combat test of the Oreshnik missile "brings us quite seriously to the brink of nuclear war," he commented in response to an inquiry by a TASS correspondent. regarding the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine is not only the fate of the Russian Federation, but also of the United States. “The most important thing right now is to take a step back in provoking Russia, because one can definitely draw an analogy between US-Western policy and Russian roulette, only in this case the revolver is loaded with a nuclear weapon. .”
Trenin noted that without the intervention of Western countries and the collapse of the peace agreement in 2022. the conflict in Ukraine would already be resolved. The expert also suggested that some preliminary negotiations between Russia and the incoming US administration of US President-elect Donald Trump are probably already underway.
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia does not believe that the solution to the Ukrainian crisis is the responsibility of Moscow and Washington alone. He also added that Russia prefers to act as it is done in BRICS and SCO, where the principle of sovereign equality of states enshrined in the UN Charter is applied.
