South Korea's national police chief and the police chief of capital Seoul have been detained for the role they played in implementing martial law briefly declared last week by President Yun Suk-yeol, police said today, as quoted by the Associated Press, as quoted by BTA.
The arrests were made just hours before the main liberal opposition party - the Democratic Party - tabled a new motion to impeach the president over his martial law. The party said it intended to ask for the motion to be voted on Saturday.
Former Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun was detained yesterday after a court in Seoul approved a warrant for his arrest on charges that he played a key role in the events as well as abuse of power. Kim became the first to be arrested in connection with the decree issued by the president on December 3 to introduce martial law in the country.
