The US military said it had bombed a military site linked to the Iran-backed Houthi movement in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, BTA reports.
According to data from US Central Command, the strike targeted a key command facility used to coordinate Houthi operations, including attacks on US naval and merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The strike and its aftermath
The Houthi media service confirmed that the strike hit part of the vast complex housing the rebels' Ministry of Defense, but no casualties have yet been reported.
The Houthis and attacks on ships
Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas in October last year, the Houthis have launched dozens of attacks on merchant ships using missiles and drones. They have attacked and captured some of them, killing four sailors and sinking two ships.
The rebels say they are targeting ships affiliated with Israel, the United States or Britain in an attempt to force Israel to end its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza. However, many of the ships attacked are not affiliated with these countries, including some bound for Iran.
The Houthis and Israel's response
The US strike came just hours after the Houthis said they had fired a hypersonic ballistic missile at Israel. The Israeli military confirmed that the missile was intercepted outside the country's territory, although the attack set off sirens in Tel Aviv.
