The South Korean intelligence agency confirmed today that Ukraine has captured a wounded North Korean soldier, after information emerged that a Ukrainian special operations unit had captured a North Korean fighter, Yonhap reported, quoted by BTA.
“Through real-time information exchange with an intelligence organization of a friendly country, (we) have confirmed the capture of a wounded North Korean soldier and plan to thoroughly investigate the subsequent development of events“, said a brief statement from the National Intelligence Service of South Korea.
The confirmation came after last night the Ukrainian news service “Military“ reported that Ukrainian forces captured the soldier during operations in Russia's Kursk region, without specifying when this happened.
A photo of the allegedly captured North Korean soldier, who appeared to have sustained injuries, was shared on Telegram. There were no further details about the soldier's condition at this time, Yonhap noted.
If the information is confirmed, this would be the first time that Ukraine has captured a North Korean soldier involved in combat.
