Israel killed 20 Palestinians in Gaza in a day - 1

At least 20 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the last 24 hours, and the number of victims in the enclave since the start of the Israeli offensive exceeded 45 thousand, BTA reported.

At the same time, the Israeli army reported that it had intercepted two shells fired from northern Gaza towards Israel.

At least 11 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded early this morning in Israeli airstrikes in the northern part of the enclave. 9 Palestinians, including children, were killed in an airstrike on the Magazi refugee camp.

Two more people were killed in an attack on a group of civilians in Jabalia in northern Gaza. There was also shelling in areas east of Khan Younis and northwest of Rafah, Reuters reported.

The Gaza Civil Defense Agency condemned yesterday's order by its director for northern Gaza, Ahmed Hassan al-Kahlud.

The Israeli army also detained the director of one of the last functioning hospitals in the northern part of the enclave.

Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, director of the "Kamal Adwan" hospital, was arrested along with dozens of other hospital staff and taken to an interrogation center, the Gaza Health Ministry said, a day after Israeli forces stormed the hospital, forcing many of the staff and patients to go outside and take off their clothes despite the cold weather:

"The patients, who have now been evacuated, were held for questioning for 24 hours despite their injuries. The occupiers left them in the cold. Then they left them at the Nazla roundabout. Despite the danger, we, the paramedics, evacuated a large number of patients," hospital workers said.

The Israeli army denied claims that it had entered the complex and said it was conducting operations against infrastructure and Hamas militants in the area and had ordered people to leave the hospital.

The Israeli military said today that it had intercepted two rockets fired from northern Gaza towards Israel.
