Police arrested several people in Berlin tonight who allegedly fired fireworks at road users, DPA reported. Among them is a 14-year-old minor who, according to information, aimed a pyrotechnic device at traffic, the police reported on the "Ex" platform. The person was also detained, the authorities specified, quoted by BTA.

Three drivers had to slam on their brakes at an intersection in the Schöneberg district, narrowly missing an accident, the police reported.

The intersection is located in the Steinmetz district, which is under a fireworks ban this year. The ban also applies to the central square "Alexanderplatz" and to part of the Zonenallee street in the Neukölln district. The area has been "an absolute hotspot" on New Year's Eve for years, a police spokesman said, adding that apart from this incident the evening had been "normal and calm".

On New Year's Eve in Berlin, fireworks are only allowed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Violators face fines of up to 10,000 euros.
