South Korean police said this morning that they were searching Muan airport, in the southwestern part of the country, and two other sites after the crash of a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 on Sunday, which killed 179 people, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
“In connection with the plane crash on December 29, from 09:00 (00:00 GMT) on January 2, an operation to search and seize material evidence was carried out at three locations“, including Muan airport, the office of “ Jeju Air“ in Seoul and at the regional aviation authority office in Muan, the police said in a statement sent to AFP.
“The police intend to quickly and strictly determine the cause and responsibility for this accident in accordance with the law“, the same source added.
On Sunday morning, a “Boeing“ Jeju Air“ plane flying from Bangkok landed on its belly at Muan airport and hit a concrete wall at the end of the runway, bending in two and bursting into flames.
Only two of the 181 people on board the plane - a flight attendant and a steward - survived the incident, which is the worst aviation disaster in South Korea's history, AFP reported.
