Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that his country is preparing to resume diplomatic relations with Syria, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
“We are preparing to resume diplomatic relations with Syria and cooperation in international organizations“, Zelensky said after listening to a report by Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga and Agriculture Minister Vitaly Koval after their visit to Syria earlier this week.
“Ukraine will support all efforts to stabilize Syria. We will create a program “Grain from Ukraine“ for cooperation with the Syrian administration and all interested partners. We will engage with the Europeans and America to provide maximum support,” Zelensky said. He added that “more stability in the Middle East means more peace and trade for all partners.”
On December 30, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga visited Damascus, where he met with Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa and newly appointed Foreign Minister Asad Hassan al-Shibani.
Earlier, on December 27, Zelensky announced the delivery of 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour to Syria as part of the “Grain from Ukraine” humanitarian initiative in partnership with the UN World Food Program.
