Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to Ukrainian television in which he spoke a lot about his expectations related to Donald Trump's presidency in the United States, which will begin on January 20.
"Trump told me on the phone when we talked that one of the first visits I would expect is you. He told me this because he told me that my priority is to end the war and I will do it. So, I think yes, after the inauguration we will have a meeting, I think we will start working, we already understand the whole plan," the Ukrainian president said, quoted by the Russian service of the BBC.
He praised the personal qualities of the newly elected US president: "Trump can be decisive. I think this is the most important thing for us, that he is like that, his qualities, they are like that. He has the ability to be decisive in this war. He can really help us stop Putin".
Speaking of Trump's reputation as an unpredictable person and politician, Zelensky said that he would like "President Trump's unpredictability to be mainly in the direction of the Russian Federation".
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian leadership has established contacts with many members of Trump's entourage.
"There have already been meetings with my chief of staff, Andriy Yermak. "There are also contacts with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Separately, there are contacts with our Minister of Defense," the Ukrainian president said.
