The people of Greenland will benefit from joining the United States. This opinion was expressed by US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday.
"Greenland is an incredible place, its people will benefit greatly if and when it becomes part of our country. We will protect and preserve it from the evil outside world," he wrote on his Truth Social page.
Trump added that his son "will go [to Greenland to see some beautiful places and sights".
Late last year, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that Washington needs control over Greenland. In response, the prime minister of the icy island of Egede stressed that it was not for sale.
During Trump's first presidential term in 2019, US media reported that he was interested in the possibility of acquiring Greenland, which is a territory within Denmark and has broad autonomy rights. The kingdom's authorities have refused to discuss the sale of Greenland, calling the idea absurd.
