The UK's largest supermarket chain "Tesco", the second largest "Sainsbury's" and the stores of the British division of the German corporation "Lidl" achieved the highest sales growth in the autumn of 2024 and over the festive period. This is according to data presented today by the marketing and market research company "Kantar" (Kantar) and quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
Sales in British stores of "Tesco" increased by 5 percent, those in supermarkets of "Sainsbury" - by 3.5 percent, and at "Lidl" increased by 6.6 percent.
The third largest supermarket chain in the UK, "Asda" (Asda), has lagged behind its competitors. In the 12 weeks to December 29, 2024, its sales fell by 5.8 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
The leader "Tesco" increased its market share to 28.5 percent, according to data from "Kantar".
Inflation, which reflects the dynamics of food prices in British supermarkets, rose in the four weeks to December 29 to its highest level since May 2024 - 3.7 percent on an annual basis. In the same period in December, 13 billion British pounds (15.66 billion euros) were spent in British supermarkets.
