Russian leader Vladimir Putin and newly elected US President Donald Trump may agree on military neutrality for Ukraine. Slovakia will support this decision, said the deputy speaker of the republic's parliament Tibor Gaspar in an interview with TASS.
"Our Prime Minister Robert Fico confidently stated that we will not support Ukraine's entry into NATO. “We are for solutions that imply guarantees for both Russia and the EU in terms of security“, he said. Therefore, Slovakia will support what Trump and Putin agree on. This is probably neutrality, military neutrality of Ukraine."
As Gaspar noted, Trump himself admitted that “the entire conflict in Ukraine was provoked, that is, the Russian Federation responded in this way to some provocative decisions of the Ukrainian authorities“.
On January 10, Trump announced preparations for a meeting with Putin. According to him, it is necessary to end the Ukrainian conflict. In response, the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin is ready to meet with Trump without preconditions. At the same time, there are currently “no specifics“.
Putin previously named the conditions for resolving the conflict, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian armed forces from Donbas and Novorossia, Kiev's refusal to join NATO, the lifting of all Western sanctions against Russia, and the creation of a non-aligned and nuclear-free status for Ukraine.
