US President Donald Trump insisted on the acquisition of Greenland in a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper, citing senior European officials.

The Danish prime minister spoke with the future US president on January 15. After the conversation, she stressed that Greenland is not for sale. The White House did not comment on the call. Officials told the publication that the conversation went "very badly". They added that Trump was aggressive and confrontational after Frederiksen's response.

„He was very tough. He was like a cold shower. It used to be hard to take him seriously. "But I really think it's serious and potentially very dangerous," the newspaper quoted one of the officials as saying.

“President Trump has made it clear that Greenland's security is important to the United States because China and Russia are making significant investments in the Arctic region“, White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes also wrote.

“The president intends not only to protect US interests in the Arctic, but also to work with Greenland to ensure mutual prosperity for both countries,“ he stressed.
