Australian police have thwarted a planned anti-Semitic attack after discovering a caravan with explosives in a Sydney suburb in the state of New South Wales, reports "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.
The caravan was discovered on January 19 in Dural, a suburb about 36 km northwest of the center of Sydney, Deputy Commissioner of Police David Hudson said at a press conference.
“This caravan contained a certain amount of explosives and some indications that they could be used in some form of anti-Semitic attack“, Hudson noted.
The threat has been completely contained and there is no longer any danger to the Jewish community, he assured Hudson.
He said arrests had been made, but did not say how many people were being held or on what charges.
Australia has seen a spate of anti-Semitic incidents in recent months. Since the start of the Israel-Gaza war in late 2023, there have been attacks on synagogues, buildings and cars.
