Jack Lopresti is a former deputy chairman of the British Conservative Party, who after the end of his political career decided to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes The Independent, quoted by FOCUS.
This is not the first encounter with war and military operations for Laprosti. Before leaving for Ukraine, he was also a reservist in Afghanistan.
The 55-year-old former MP shared on social media that he is now a volunteer with the International Legion in Ukraine.
The former politician is not on the front line of military operations, but performs support work. His military duties and focus are on foreign relations and diplomacy, arms procurement and some work with veterans and charities working in Ukraine.
He told The Independent: “I am based in Kiev but I travel around Ukraine all the time”, adding that he had been in the cities of Kharkiv and Poltava in the east of the country, which are now hot spots of fighting, over the past week.
“It is a huge honour and a huge privilege for me to serve in the Ukrainian army and to be able to help the brave and incredible Ukrainian people in any way I can,” he added.
''The people here are not just fighting for their freedom and their right to exist as an independent and sovereign nation, they are fighting for all of us, in Europe and the rest of the free world. If Putin wins in Ukraine, we all know he won't stop there.
"The consequences would be huge for the rest of the world, especially in places like Taiwan. Ukraine needs to be supported and given the tools to win for all of us," Lopresti summarizes.
