The European Union is considering providing military aid to Ukraine worth up to €40 billion in 2025, according to a discussion paper prepared by the European Diplomatic Service and cited by "Reuters", News.bg reports.
The proposal comes at a time when the United States is reducing its military support for Kiev and Washington is pushing for European allies to shoulder more of the financial and military burden in the conflict. The EU document stresses that each country participating in the initiative must contribute "in line with its economic weight".
The main contributions are expected from countries such as Germany, France and the Netherlands, which have already made significant efforts to support Ukraine by supplying ammunition, weapons and training Ukrainian soldiers.
Germany has already announced a €10 billion military aid package for 2025, with Berlin taking the lead in providing modern air defense systems. France has also stepped up its support, providing long-range SCALP missiles and new tanks. The Netherlands, for its part, plays a key role in coordinating the international coalition to provide F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Although the EU has already approved a five-year military support plan worth 20 billion euros, the new proposal shows that Brussels intends to increase its efforts as early as 2025.
