Greek Cabinet Reshuffle: Mitsotakis Appoints New Ministers - 1

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made changes to his cabinet, the Associated Press reports, reports News.bg.

In an effort to bolster support from traditional conservatives, Makis Voridis has been appointed migration minister. Former digital minister Kyriakos Pierakakis is taking over the finance ministry.

Former Finance Minister Kostis Hadzidakis has become deputy prime minister. Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Defense Minister Nikos Dendias are keeping their posts. The new ministers will be sworn in on Saturday, March 15.

The cabinet reshuffle was announced a day after veteran lawmaker Konstantinos Thassoulas was sworn in as president of Greece. He replaces Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the first woman to hold the position in the country's history.

The changes in government come as Mitsotakis seeks to rebuild public trust after a devastating 2023 train crash that killed 57 people and sparked mass protests. The center-right New Democracy party has seen its approval ratings plummet as the government continues to grapple with the political fallout from the tragedy.
