South Korea's opposition will file a motion to impeach acting president Choi Sang-mok on Tuesday, the Democratic Party said in a letter to the media, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Choi, who is also finance minister, leads the country as interim president after President Yoon Suk-yeol was impeached after briefly imposing martial law in December, triggering South Korea's worst political crisis in decades, Reuters reported.
South Korea's Constitutional Court said it would rule on March 24 on the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Deok-soo after he was removed as acting president last year, BTA reported. Reuters
The decision on whether to remove him from office or reinstate him will be closely watched as the Constitutional Court's highly anticipated ruling on the impeachment of ousted President Yoon Suk-yeol is looming. The Constitutional Court has not yet announced a date for its decision on whether to uphold Yoon's impeachment or restore his presidential powers.
Han had been in office for less than two weeks and was removed from office on December 27 after a clash with the opposition-led parliament over his refusal to appoint three more judges to the Constitutional Court. Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok became acting president while Yoon and Han's cases are heard by the Constitutional Court, Reuters reported.
