The talks between expert groups from Russia and the US, held yesterday in the Saudi capital Riyadh, were not easy, but turned out to be useful for both countries. This was stated by Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council's international affairs committee and a member of the Russian delegation, to TASS, BTA reports.
„Everything was discussed, there was an intense and complex dialogue, but extremely useful for us and the Americans. Many issues were considered. "Of course, not everything was decided or agreed upon, but the fact that such a conversation took place is very timely," Karasin noted.
He added that the dialogue would continue with the participation of the international community, with particular importance for the UN and individual states.
The talks, which lasted more than 12 hours, ended with consultations on issues related to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. A source in the Russian delegation told Reuters that the parties had reached agreement on a joint statement, which is expected to be released today by both the Kremlin and the White House.
The Russian team was led by Grigory Karasin and Sergei Beseda, an adviser to the director of the Federal Security Service. The US delegation included Andrew Peake, senior director for Europe at the National Security Council, Michael Anton, director of policy planning at the State Department, as well as members of the offices of Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg and Trump's national security adviser Mike Walz.
