US President Donald Trump and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation in which they discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported, citing information from the UAE state news agency - UAM yesterday.
Israeli forces resumed fighting in Gaza on March 18, thus ending a fragile two-month ceasefire agreement.
In his conversation with Trump, the UAE president called for humanitarian aid to be guaranteed for Gaza residents and expressed his support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, UAM reported.
Earlier last month, Trump presented his plan for the Gaza Strip, which envisages the evacuation of the Palestinians and the creation of a Middle Eastern "Riviera" in Gaza. This proposal has been criticized by a large number of world leaders.
Arab countries, including the UAE, have accepted Egypt's alternative plan for Gaza, under which $53 billion should be raised for the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave and the Palestinians in Gaza are not displaced.
The UAM did not specify whether Trump and Sheikh Mohammed discussed these plans for Gaza.
