"The question is no longer whether, but how soon there will be a European Defense Union", said German Foreign Minister Analene Berbock, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
"The European defense industry is still national in nature, and therefore – highly inefficient", Berbock stressed during the "Europe 2025" conference, dedicated to European sovereignty.
"If we continue to use 150 different weapons systems in Europe that are not compatible with each other, we can spend all the money in the world on them and still not be efficient enough. "That's why I believe that with regard to the European Defense Union, it's no longer a question of whether, but how quickly we can achieve it," the Foreign Minister added.
