The US Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, has ordered the dismissal of almost all employees at the headquarters of the US Institute of Peace, the Washington Post reported, citing its own sources.
Informants of the newspaper among the institute's employees said that DOGE has notified about 200-300 employees of the layoffs. It is specified that some of them were offered compensation or extended health insurance in exchange for withdrawing their complaint against the dismissal.
In total, the United States Institute of Peace has approximately 600 employees. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, its missions operate in Ukraine, the Philippines, and sub-Saharan Africa.
The institute's official mission is to promote conflict resolution and prevention.
