The US administration sees a peaceful settlement of Ukraine through achieving a full ceasefire and talks between Moscow and Kiev and opposes the introduction of interim administration in the country.
This was announced by the head of the State Department's press service Tammy Bruce at a regular briefing for journalists.
„We are working with the understanding that the negotiations will require difficult decisions and compromises from Russia and Ukraine. And we are working with Russia and Ukraine and intend to continue our work to bring them to the negotiating table,“ she said.
“There was a Russian idea for an interim administration that was not approved by the president. Ukraine is a constitutional democracy. The governance of Ukraine is determined by its constitution and the Ukrainian people," Bruce added.
“We are engaging in the diplomacy necessary to achieve a full ceasefire and bring the parties to the negotiating table for a final and lasting settlement. President Trump has made it clear that Russia and Ukraine must immediately move to a full ceasefire, and nothing has changed,“ the diplomat said.
On March 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin, while in Murmansk, said that international practice suggests the possibility of introducing external governance, which would open the way to legitimate negotiations for a settlement of Ukraine. He recalled precedents: external governance under the auspices of the UN in East Timor, New Guinea and parts of the former Yugoslavia. Putin noted that the possibility of introducing interim governance in Ukraine could be discussed under the auspices of the UN with the United States, European countries, as well as with Russia's partners and friends.
