The Turkish Foreign Minister has stated that Turkey will not support any form of federal structure in Syria and expects all armed elements, including members of the Kurdish People's Protection Forces (PKK) (which Ankara perceives as an offshoot of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party) to disarm and integrate into the national army, reported “Türkiye Today“, quoted by BTA.
Fidan outlined Turkey's approach to the latest developments in Syria and the region in a meeting with deputies from Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
He stressed that no armed formations outside the Syrian National Army will be tolerated and that the inclusion of the Kurds in the Syrian constitution as a constituent element is important for Turkey.
The Turkish Foreign Minister condemned Israel's airstrikes in Syria and said they contribute to the destabilization of the region. He said that the Israeli attacks are actually creating space for the “Islamic State“, which is a threat to peace in the Western world and globally.
Fidan also categorically opposed Israel's plans to depopulate the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians in third countries. He pointed out that Jordan and Egypt have not responded positively to the idea of resettling Palestinians.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also developed the thesis that if Turkey had been a member of the European Union, Brexit would not have happened, and the two countries would have changed the dynamics of the European Union in the security sphere.
“If Turkey were in the EU today, we would not be talking about the strengthening of the far right. "But the reality is far from ideal," Fidan said.
