The 145% US tariffs imposed on Chinese products can be reduced and are unlikely to be increased, US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House.
“I don't want the tariffs to go up because at some point people won't buy”, the head of state said.
He stressed that he intends to postpone the TikTok deal until the trade situation with China is resolved. “We have a deal on TikTok, but it depends on China, so we're just going to postpone it until everything is sorted out. I think it's a good deal for China and they would like to do it," the president said.
Chinese officials have already contacted the US administration about the tariffs, Trump confirmed.
“They've reached out to us several times“, he said, and reiterated that he has an excellent relationship with his Chinese counterpart, and that they “will continue”. “I have a very good relationship with President Xi and I think they will continue“,
