Palestinian President Abbas to meet Putin - 1

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in Russia on May 8 and hopes to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin for talks on May 10, the Izvestia newspaper reported, citing the country's ambassador to Moscow, Abdel Hafiz Nofal.

According to the ambassador, Abbas will arrive in Moscow on May 8 and take part in Victory Day celebrations.

He expects to hold talks with Putin on May 10. Among their possible topics, the diplomat mentioned the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, Israeli military actions and prospects for resolving the conflict. In addition, the two leaders may touch upon the upcoming UN Security Council conference in June, where they will discuss a resolution on the international recognition of Palestine and Israel as two separate states.

It is possible that the agenda of the negotiations will include humanitarian aid for the residents of Gaza and the lack of supplies due to the refusal to allow cargo from Israel. The ambassador noted that the meeting of the presidents is of particular importance against the backdrop of the escalation in the Middle East and the growing pressure on the people of Palestine.

The previous meeting between the two leaders took place in October 2024 during the BRICS summit in Kazan. Then Abbas and Putin also discussed the events in the exclave.
