Zelensky: Hungarian people support Ukraine, despite Orban's position - 1

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he is convinced of the support of the Hungarian people for Ukraine and its accession to the European Union, despite the public statements of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, reports „Interfax-Ukraine“, reports Focus.

Zelensky pointed out that the Hungarian opposition had conducted an independent poll among citizens, according to which 70% of Hungarians support Ukraine's membership in the EU.

„The people of Hungary are on our side. You know that he (Orban) organized a poll according to which people are supposedly against. He controlled this survey. But there is another - independent - and it shows that 70% of Hungarians are „for“ Ukraine“, Zelensky noted.

He accused Orban of using the topic of Ukraine for political dividends on the domestic stage.
“Just don't drag us into your elections. He does it. He blocks us on the way to the EU. But this approach will not be profitable. People support Ukraine. He can collect some percentage, but you can't win forever just through hatred“, the Ukrainian president emphasized.

On April 11, Viktor Orban said that he would not allow Brussels to “force“ Hungary to accept Ukraine's membership in the EU.

Earlier, on March 24, it became clear that the Hungarian government had added to its polls an information sheet with manipulative content related to Ukraine's membership in the EU.

Zelensky had already stated that the only country that is hindering Ukraine's European integration is Hungary.

On March 7, Orbán announced on the social network X that he would put the issue of Ukraine's membership in the EU to an internal vote, in which the Hungarian people would decide and the government would comply with this will.

A day earlier, on March 6, the Hungarian prime minister blocked a joint EU communiqué, with which the member states planned to reaffirm their commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
