Russian President Vladimir Putin held a conversation with newly elected Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian on Monday, the main topic of which was the progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States over Tehran's nuclear program, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
According to an official statement from the Kremlin, Putin expressed Russia's readiness to assist in continuing the dialogue between Tehran and Washington with the aim of reaching a “fair and based on the principles of international law agreement“.
An Iranian representative quoted by Reuters specified that the fourth round of consultations between the United States and Iran would likely take place at the end of this week in Oman - on Saturday and Sunday, or on Sunday and Monday.
In addition to the nuclear issue, the two leaders discussed and bilateral relations. According to the Kremlin, Putin and Pezeshkian agreed to intensify joint work on the comprehensive strengthening of practical cooperation between Russia and Iran, as well as closer coordination in foreign policy.
"The issues related to the further development of cooperation on the basis of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty were considered in detail," the Kremlin statement said. Particular attention was paid to the expansion of mutually beneficial trade and investment ties, including joint projects in the fields of transport and energy.
President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Russia for the assistance provided after the explosion at the Iranian port “Shahid Rajai“ in the southern city of Bandar Abbas. He also congratulated Vladimir Putin and the Russian people on the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
