The US continues to support Ukraine, but not as before, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanyshyna told MEPs on the European Parliament's legal affairs committee. She called on the EU to continue its assistance to Kiev and to seize Russian assets frozen under European sanctions.
According to her, in her Ukraine, it is possible for the assets of those against whom sanctions have been imposed to be seized in favor of the country's recovery from Russia's military actions. For years, Russian propaganda has sought to suggest that Ukraine is a failed state, but Ukrainians are immune to this and have learned to live that way, she said.
According to Stefanyshyna, the European Commission's assessment of Ukraine's readiness to start negotiations on joining the EU is progressing. According to her, the negotiations could be opened in two months. We are ready to start negotiations as soon as possible, she said.
Stefanyshyna pointed out that her country has imposed self-imposed restrictions on exports to neighboring countries. We are very concerned that so far we have no talks with the EC on a permanent settlement of trade issues, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister added.
