Iran will meet with representatives of European countries involved in the nuclear deal as part of a new round of diplomatic efforts. This was announced by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, after the talks scheduled for May 2 were postponed, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
The meeting in Istanbul will include diplomats from France, Britain and Germany. The main topic will be discussing the possibilities of reaching a new agreement between Iran and the United States, following the interrupted negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Araghchi stressed that the fourth round of talks with the United States, held last Sunday, was “complex” and focused on one of the most controversial issues - uranium enrichment. He expressed hope that the US side would adopt a "more realistic approach" by taking into account Iran's key arguments.
The Omani Foreign Ministry, which has been mediating the talks since they began on April 12, is expected to announce a date for the next, fifth round of talks soon.
Araghchi also commented on a recent statement by US President Donald Trump, made in Riyadh, in which Iran was called the "most destructive force" in the Middle East.
"Unfortunately, this is a misleading point of view. The real obstacle to Iran's progress is precisely the sanctions imposed by the US," the Iranian minister said.
