Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to visit Iran, but the exact date of the visit has not yet been agreed. This was announced on Wednesday by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Reuters, reports News.bg.
„President Putin does indeed have an invitation for an official or working visit to Iran. The dates have not been finalized. "As soon as this happens, we will inform you," Peskov told reporters.
Earlier, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the visit of the Russian head of state "is currently being prepared."
"We highly value the partnership with Iran and the deep relations in a wide range of areas," Peskov added.
Putin's last visit to Tehran was in 2022, a few months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, bilateral relations between Moscow and Tehran have strengthened significantly. In early 2025, the two countries signed a 20-year strategic partnership agreement, which, they said, is not directed against third countries.
However, the West perceives the deepening Russian-Iranian ties as a threat. Russia has used Iranian drones in the conflict in Ukraine, and the United States has accused Iran of supplying Moscow with short-range ballistic missiles, a claim Tehran denies. The Kremlin has not confirmed the receipt of such missiles, but acknowledges that cooperation between the two countries covers “sensitive areas.”
Russia has long supported Iran’s right to develop a peaceful civilian nuclear program.
