Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed hope that today's peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul will open the way for a new beginning, the Anadolu Agency reported, quoted by BTA.
“Now, after three years of immense suffering, there is finally a unique opportunity“, Hakan Fidan said in his welcoming speech at the opening of an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Antalya.
“I hope the talks in Istanbul will open a new chapter,“ Fidan also said.
He also stressed the need to create a security network within NATO, stretching from the US state of Texas to the Turkish capital Ankara.
In his opening speech at the event, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reiterated the "significance" of the meeting and the need to discuss how to strengthen the Alliance so that no one dares to attack it.
“We need to discuss how to ensure that NATO is stronger. That means more defense spending. That means more defense production, but also how to ensure that NATO is fair, that we share the burden equally among allies,“ he said.
