The legitimation of the results of Russia's negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul is possible despite the expiration of Vladimir Zelensky's mandate. This was stated by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik at a meeting with journalists.
„We have analyzed the Ukrainian legislation and in accordance with it we clearly understand that Zelensky's powers as the legitimate leader of the country have expired. And all this is emphasized and accepted by both the international and expert communities. And there is no second opinion in this regard. And a number of other countries understand this.
Therefore, the risks that the agreements reached, signed in an illegitimate manner, may lead to the disavowal of all agreements.
The question of the negotiation process is what mechanisms will be for its full legalization in the legal field, which should prescribe transitional conditions“, said Miroshnyk.
Ukraine's attempt to turn the pragmatic and working negotiation process into some kind of show and destabilize the situation did not work“, said Miroshnyk. He refrained from speculation about the possibility of a personal meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky.
"Russia has embarked on a search for a political and diplomatic settlement", he said. According to him, the Russian side is ready to go through all the necessary stages to complete it. "But in a timely manner and under appropriate conditions.
That is why we are only at the beginning of the journey," Miroshnik noted. He believes that it is currently quite difficult to predict anything in this direction.
"All relevant details will be resolved step by step", the diplomat specified, assuring that the Russian Federation will follow the path of a peaceful and long-term settlement of the conflict if it sees a pragmatic approach to this issue from the other side.
