The Kremlin will inform if Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump decide to hold a telephone conversation regarding the recent Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained in response to a question from TASS.
“If Presidents Putin and Trump consider it appropriate to hold a conversation, we will inform you“, he said.
On May 16, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine were held in Istanbul - for the first time in three years. In essence, this is a resumption of the dialogue that was interrupted in 2022. at the initiative of Kiev, instigated by the West.
After the meeting in Istanbul, Moscow and Kiev agreed to exchange prisoners according to the formula “1000 for 1000“, to present in detail their vision for a possible future ceasefire and to continue the negotiation process. The head of the Russian delegation, presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, said that the Russian side was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. He also reported that Ukraine had requested direct talks between the leaders of the countries, and Russia had taken “this request into account“.
