Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Kasra gave the country's armed groups a 10-day deadline to join the Syrian forces, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
After the overthrow of long-time President Bashar al-Assad in December last year, the new government of Ahmed al-Sharaa disbanded the army and security agencies.
It then announced that it was disbanding all armed factions, including the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" group led by al-Sharaa, which stormed Damascus, ousting Assad.
"Anyone who is armed and has the opportunity to join the Ministry of Defense will be fine came," said Sharaa, who is Syria's interim president.
"Immediately after the liberation of Syria, we worked to integrate (the armed groups) into a single institution," said the statement from Abu Kasra, who has the difficult task of rebuilding the Syrian army after nearly 14 years of civil war.
The minister announced "the integration of all units into the Syrian Ministry of Defense", but stressed "the need for small military groups that have not yet done so to join the ministry within a maximum of 10 days of this announcement.".
"In case of delay, appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the law," he warned.
